Hearing the orchestra play the Terrapin interlude was pretty cool, but the SOTM was surprisingly flat and quite boring...

Warren Haynes is probably the best thing going in the Dead world right now...

The Wolf and all the Garcia guitars should be in permanent retirement...

The whole clip is worth it (about a Guarneri del Gesù violin instead of the Wolf), but esp. from the 4:30 mark > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAReN6pgk0k

The Garcia guitars were custom built for Jerry, they were his personal guitars and should be retired...the violin wasn't specific to an individual...

gonna disagree with that.....as it is plain to see that in the right hands some of the magic that lies within can be released... some of those tunes have not sounded that good for way to long!

the magic is in the fingertips, Garcia sounded like Garcia even if he was playing a cheap knock off...

not really, guitars will have different basic tones, I.e. a semi hollow body with humbuckers will sound different than a stratocaster with single coil pick-ups...however, Garcia played on a dozen or more guitars through the history of the Dead, but we all knew immediately it was Garcia when he plugged in and played...it was his style and talent that shone through...same with Hendrix or Knoplfer, etc., we hear them, not really just the guitar per say...

really? i would never have guessed...

you should really call yourself whammy bar!!!

all i meant is why not ...if the guitar still had life left in it, and it showed it did, when unfortunately , the man didn't!!

that , in my opinion, was the best tribute yet to mr. garcia...a tribute well deserved.

Haynes gets a pass, he's a good guy, it was a tribute, but if I hear of Ryan Adams choking out one of Jerry's guitars again, I'll fly to California and throw a box of Phish tapes at him...

Are his electric guitars more akin to custom made shoes then a fine instrument or is it sentiment?

I would love to hear the electric sets in the same Q as the acoustic > http://archive.org/details/gd1980-10-10.mtx.chappell.sb03.28740.flac16

it's the sentiment, they are an extension of the man...don't get me wrong, I would love to pick on the Wolf, but when I see guys like Bryan Adams playing it, I get ooky in my tummy...

The acoustic sets for virtually every fall 80 show sound better than the electric sets. If 10-10-1980 was ever remastered with a bass boost on the electric sets, I would be one happy bearded clam...what a great show...

Ryan or Bryan? Glad the survivors would never cover his songs...
